In an email dated February 4, 2006, the following is from Vickie “Kelly” Toney.
As some of you may already know we have taken on the huge task
of raising money for new stadium lights at our Mustang’s Football Field. I think we would all agree we have one of
the most beautiful stadiums in the whole state of West Virginia. I have been told the lighting system was
installed around 1942 and I know repairs have had to be made to keep them
half-way burning.
A minimum goal was set of $10,000 and right now we have
$5,535.27. In the past year we have had
several fundraisers including the 50/50’s sold at the ballgames, a Tupperware
party, fried apple pies, candy and candles sold. We have plans to make the peanut butter Easter eggs which should
be good sellers. Also a few of the
local businesses and individuals have made donations.
We have been told the county and state will match our efforts if
we could show school and community involvement and we are planning our approach
with the Fayette County Board of Education now.
At this time I am asking classmates to consider a donation of some type and I very strongly encourage you to inform every MHHS classmate you keep in contact with or have their address of this FUND RAISER.
NOTE: An email was
received today, February 16, 2006 with an update. They have finished the peanut butter and coconut “hearts” and are
ready to start on the Easter Eggs and have collected a few more donations. The grand total now is $8,131.00. Classmates, some
of these local folks are bustin’ their butts for all of us. I feel we all need to support their efforts
by sending in a donation, be it $5.00, $500.00 or more. Inform all your classmates of this Fund
Raiser and let’s all be a part of it. Jim Huffman
